Guild's Profile
The Kanlaon Theatre Guild was originally called the CSA-B Drama Guild. It is one of the four institutional organizations under the San Agustin Performing Arts (SAPA) scholarship program of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod. It was established in 1990 and had been active in the national, regional and provincial theater festivals, conferences and seminar-workshop. Rudy Reveche was appointed as Artistic Director.
The group gained national prominence when it represented the Province of Negros Occidental and the entire Visayas in “Ikalawang Tagpo: the 2nd National Theatre Festival in February, 1996 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The entry was a historical dance-drama, “Papa Isio, Tingog sang Kadam-an.” From 1997 to 2000, Ian de Ramos, pioneer member of the group, served as Director. Mr. Reveche resumed his position as Artistic Director from 2001 up to the 2015. Kanlaon participated in Tanghal 1: National University Theater Festival held in Iloilo City in 2007 with Arnel Marduqio’s Taytayan: Ang Pagpangita sang Atong Kapanulundan ,Tanghal 2 in Zamboanga City in 2008 with selected scenes from Dr. Jose Rizal’s Noli and Fili, Saulog: Visayas Theater Festival held in Negros Museum with Rody Vera’s “Nang Dahil Lang Sa Init” translated by the cast in Ilonggo version in December 2008. The Kanlaon Theater Guild had also participated in the Monodrama Festival in Intramuros, Manila with Wilfredo Ma. Guerrero’s “Ang Mga Lalaki Talaga” on February 16, 2009, part of the Ani ng Sining: Philippine International Arts Month Celebration by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and also in Tanghal 3 in 2009 up to Tanghal 10 in 2016. The Guild was invited by CCP for the Ika-apat Na Tagpo, the 4th National Theater Festival in 2012 with it’s breakdance theater piece, “Circulo”. |
The guild is one of the awardees under the environment, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation category of the 2016 Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) of the National Youth Commission and the Office of Senator Bam Aquino. Also, the recipient of Golden Eagle Award for Excellence of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod and Medal of Excellence for Arts and Culture by the City of Bacolod and 2017 Sowing Legacy for Community Service Awardee by the Sowing Legacy Movement Negros Island Region. The guild is under the artistic direction of Ricardo Salanap Jr., after Rudy Reveche who took over the directorship of the school’s dance troupe. Both core group members of the Christian Community Theater – Murcia, Negros Occidental. For 25 years, Kanlaon had mounted original advocacy plays and translation and adaptation of foreign and Filipino plays. With the advent of the K+12 curriculum and the Negros Island Region, the guild is looking forward to a new theater horizon. |
